Kirkland of Longcastle

A location in The Machars of Dumfries and Galloway, the Kirkland of Longcastle (or simply Longcastle) lies on the A714 road, 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Wigtown. The former Dowalton Loch near here was completely drained in 1862 by local landowners. On its shore once stood Longcastle, a stronghold of the McDougalls.
