A dormitory settlement lying next to Muirhead 4½ miles (7 km) northwest of the centre of Dundee, on the border of Angus Council Area and Dundee City. Birkhill has a primary school, which opened in 1993. Located across the council area boundary to the east is the extensive Birkhill Cemetery which was opened in 1989 and is now the main burial ground for Dundee. Camperdown Park lies immediately to the southeast.
