A location on the southeastern margin of Dumbarton, on the A 82 trunk road, Dumbuck lies adjacent to the village of Milton. The sizeable Dumbuck Quarry to the north has removed much of Dumbuck Hill. To the south is an immense complex of bonded warehouses built for Ballantine's whisky. Between 1959 and 2012, the complex was guarded by a flock of geese, known as 'The Scotch Watch'. The Dumbuck warehouses are now run by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of the international drinks conglomerate Pernod Ricard. Dumbuck Crannog, located on the mud flats of the River Clyde, is an ancient timber platform which is exposed at low tide. Discovered in 1898, the site was subsequently excavated revealing an apparently rich array of finds, many of which were later suggested to be forgeries.
