Bogside

Fife

An agricultural hamlet in W Fife, Bogside lies 2½ miles (4 km) west of Blairhall. A section of the Stirling-Dunfermline Railway once passed to the north. Bogside Colliery lay to the east. This was sunk in 1957 and reached its peak in the 1970s with a workforce of 875. It closed in 1986 following flooding which took place during the Miner's Strike of 1984-85. This mine extracted the Upper Hirst coal sending it by underground conveyor to the nearby power stations at Kincardine and later Longannet.
