A small hamlet with a primary school in W Angus, Airlie is located in a parish of the same name 4½ miles (7 km) northeast of Alyth and 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Kirriemuir. Kirkton of Airlie is situated a half-mile (1 km) to the north and the 18th century Airlie Castle lies 2 miles (3 km) to the northwest overlooking the River Isla. Surrounding farms include Newton of Airlie, Littleton of Airlie, Mains of Airlie, and Brae of Airlie.
