(Chapelton of Elsick)

A small roadside settlement in E Aberdeenshire, Chapelton (or Chapelton of Elsick) lies next to Elsick House, a half-mile (1 km) west of Cammachmore and 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Newtonhill. A ruined chapel is located to the south. Plans for the development of a 4000-home new town here by the Earl of Southesk, extending over an 838-ha (2070-acre) site largely owned by his father, the Duke of Fife, were approved in 2012.
