A crofting township at the head of Loch Carloway on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Carloway (Gael: Carlabhagh) lies 15½ miles (25 km) west northwest of Stornoway. The village benefits from a Gaelic-medium primary school, two churches and is noted for its fine example of a Pictish broch which is situated 1¼ miles (2 km) to the southwest.
