The Tolbooth, West Wemyss

A village on the Firth of Forth, 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Kirkcaldy. Created a burgh of barony in 1511 the 'Haven Town of Wemyss' developed first as a port with salt pans and later as a mining settlement. It was designated a conservation area in 1985 and has many picturesque buildings including an 18th Century Tolbooth, Wemyss Castle (c.1420) and many salters' and colliers' houses.

The Barony of Wester Wemyss was created in 1919 for Rosslyn Wemyss (1864 - 1933), Britain's First Sea Lord.
