Machrie Argyll and Bute A location on the island of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, Machrie lies at the southern end of Laggan Bay 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Port Ellen. The Machrie River flows southwest through Glen Machrie into Laggan Bay. To the north is Islay Airport at Glenegedale and to the south a notable hotel and golf course lie on machair land bordered by the sandy dunes of Traigh a' Mhachaire.
