Gogarbank

City of Edinburgh

A settlement and former estate in W Edinburgh, Gogarbank is trapped between the M8 motorway and A8, beyond the A720 Edinburgh bypass. The settlement is strung out over a half-mile (1 km) between Gogarbank House and Gogarbank Farm. Gogarbank House dates from the 18th century, but was purchased by the War Office in 1931 to become the official residence of the General Officer Commanding Scotland (GOC) who is also Governor of Edinburgh Castle. Gogarbank Farm operates as a research facility for Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture (SASA). Trefoil House (once Kirklands House) has provided support for young people with disabilities on this site since 1951. Suntrap Garden is also located here.
