Craighall

Fife

A locality in Central Fife, Craighall lies a half-mile (0.8 km) southeast of Ceres and comprises farms at Craighall and Craighall Mains, both lying to the north of Craighall Burn and Craighall Den. Craighall Castle was built in 1637 by Sir Thomas Hope (1573 - 1646), a jurist who gave rise to a notable family of lawyers and to the Earls of Hopetoun (Marquesses of Linlithgow). What remained of the castle was in a perilous condition and was demolished in 1957.
