Wilkieston

West Lothian

A small village of West Lothian, Wilkieston lies 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Ratho and 3 miles (5 km) east of Livingston. To the south are the upper reaches of the Gogar Burn. Linburn House was bought by the Scottish National Institution for the War Blinded in 1944 and a crescent of homes here were developed on the south side of the village in the 1950s to house blinded ex-servicemen and their families. Linburn House was demolished in 1955 but the Linburn Centre, which once provided residential accommodation, reopened as a day-centre in 2011. The Military Museum Scotland is also located here, while nearby to the northwest is Bonnington House, which is the location of Jupiter Artland. A quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east was Hatton House, once home to the Earls of Lauderdale, which was destroyed by fire in 1952.
