Harris

(Na Hearadh)
Highland

A location and abandoned settlement between the mouths of Glen Duian and Glen Harris, on the southwest coast of Rum in the Inner Hebrides, Harris (Gael: Na Hearadh) comprises a largely abandoned village, a small hunting lodge and the Bullough Mausoleum. The hunting lodge was built by the Bulloughs in the later 19th C. The footings of at least twenty-five ruined buildings can still be clearly observed, abandoned as the island was cleared for sheep in the 1820s. Harris is connected by a 5-mile (8-km) track to the island's only permanent settlement at Kinloch.
