A small collier settlement located towards the east of North Lanarkshire, West Benhar lies a mile (1.5 km) southwest of Harthill. A succession of coal mines have operated here from early 18th century until the middle of the 20th century. The River Almond flows past a quarter-mile (0.4 km) to the southeast.
