Skeabrae

Orkney

A location in the Sandwick district of the Orkney Mainland, Skeabrae lies 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of the Loch of Harray and a similar distance west of Dounby. A naval airfield established here at the beginning of World War II and taken over by the Royal Air Force as a fighter base in 1940 closed shortly after the end of the war and was sold in 1957. The remains of several air force buildings can still be seen on the site.
