Old Philpstoun


West Lothian

A small settlement of West Lothian Council Area, Old Philpstoun lies to the east of Philpstoun and is situated between the M9 motorway and the route of the Union Canal. The Binns, a National Trust for Scotland property, lies to the northwest and Philpstoun House, which was built in 1676 for John Dundas, is located to the east. Philpstoun Mill and Philpstoun Muir lie to the south, while Philpstoun Loch which once lay a quarter-mile (0.4 km) to the south southwest has been lost under an oil-shale bing.
