Keose

(Ceos)
Western Isles

A crofting township in the North Lochs district on the east coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Keose (Gael: Ceos) lies on the north shore of Loch Erisort opposite Garyvard and 1¼ miles (2 km) east of Laxay. Keose Glebe (Gael: Glib Cheois) lies immediately to the east and Loch Keose (Gael: Loch Cheois) is located a half-mile (1 km) to the east northeast.

The kelp industry has long been important to Keose, reaching its peak after a processing plant opened here in 1965 to extracted alginate. Now locally-owned, this plant continues to process seaweed into organic soil conditioners and fertilisers (2003).
