Wooplaw

Scottish Borders

A location in the Scottish Borders, Wooplaw lies to the west of the Allan Water, 2½ miles (4 km) southeast of Stow and 4 miles (6 km) north of Galashiels. Wooplaw House is a two-storey pink sandstone residence built in 1844 around the core of a 17th century building and featuring unusual tall diamond-plan chimneys. The first community woodland in Britain was designated at Wooplaw in 1987, brainchild of local furniture designer and wood sculptor Tim Stead (1952 - 2000).
