A location in S Angus, Balmuir lies on the outskirts of Dundee, to the north of the Dighty Water 1½ miles (2.5 km) east southeast of Bridgefoot. By the 19th century, there were several mills on the Dighty here processing textiles and grinding flour. Balmuir House lies to the northeast, with a farm at Hilltown of Balmuir beyond.
