A small settlement in the Cairn Valley to the W of Nithsdale (Dumfries and Galloway), Milton lies on the Glenesslin Burn, 1¼ miles (2 km) west of Dunscore and 9 miles (15 km) northwest of Dumfries. The community has grown with new-build housing c.2005.
