Montford

Argyll and Bute

A linear settlement, mostly comprising substantial semi-detached villas, Montford lies on the east coast of the Isle of Bute. The area developed around Montford House, built around 1850 and still extant. Today, Montford forms a purely residential extension of Rothesay, strung out along the A844 road between Craigmore and Ascog, a mile (1.8 km) east of the town centre. The houses are not as large as those in Ascog a half-mile (0.8 km) to the south.
