Bridekirk, a village in Annan and Hoddam parishes, and a quoad sacra parish, partly also in Cummertrees parish, S Dumfriesshire. The village stands on the right bank of the Annan, 3 miles NNW of Annan, and has a post office under that town, a three-arched bridge, a saw-mill, a corn-mill, and a public school. Pop. (1861) 360, all in Annan parish; (1871) 340 in Annan and 7 in Hoddam; (1881) 334. The parish had a population in 1871 of 7 31 (78 in Hoddam, 44 in Cummertrees), in 1881, of 702; and it is in the presbytery of Annan and synod of Dumfries. Stipend, £120. The church was built in 1835, entirely at the expense of Mrs Dirom of Mount - Annan and her friends, and contains 370 sittings.
