Oil Shale Bings dominate the West Lothian Landscape

Situated to the west of Edinburgh with a short coastline on the Firth of Forth, West Lothian is centred on the settlements of Bathgate, Armadale, Whitburn, Mid Calder and the new town of Livingston (the administrative centre). The region has attracted inward investment from world-leading hi-tech firms and has industrial estates catering for a wide range of small and medium sized businesses that have easy access to Edinburgh airport. Historically, the region's most famous association is with Mary Queen of Scots who was born in Linlithgow Palace.
