Wedderburn

'Non Degener (Not Degenerate)'

Taking their name from the lands of Wedderburn in Berwickshire in the Scottish Borders, the Wedderburns are first mentioned in 13th century records. The surname became prominent in Dundee history in the 15th century. The brothers John (c.1500-56), James (c.1495 - 1553) and Robert Wedderburn (c.1510-56) were notable religious reformers, and from 1557 to 1717 Wedderburns were town clerks there.

A branch of the family settled in Moravia (Hungary).
