Morar Power Station
A small hydro-electric power scheme of the West Highlands, the Morar power station is located on the River Morar at the west end of Loch Morar, 2½ miles (4 km) south of Mallaig and was completed in 1948. It has a generation capacity of 1 megawatt making use of a gross head of water of just 5m (16 feet) from the loch to produce an average of 3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Originally built to supply electricity to the isolated community in this area, the scheme is now an integral part of the national electricity supply network.
