Bogton Loch

An expansion of the River Doon in East Ayrshire, Bogton Loch lies a mile (1.5 km) southwest of Dalmellington and a similar distance northwest of Bellsbank. The loch and associated wetland form a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and are noted for a diversity of bird-life, including Whooper Swan, Greylag Goose, Dabchick, Sedge Warbler, Reed Bunting, together with Mallard, Teal and Goldeneye Duck. Peregrine Falcons, Kestrels, Sparrowhawk and Hen Harriers are not uncommon and otters can also be observed.
