Neist Point

A headland on the western coast of the Isle of Skye in Highland Council Area, Neist Point is the most westerly point of the island, located 8 miles (13 km) west of Dunvegan. The land here belongs to the Glendale Estate and forms part of the common grazings for the nearby township of Waterstein. A Stevenson-built lighthouse was commissioned here in 1909. To the north lies Oisgill Bay while to the south lies Monnen Bay. Neist Point features as a location in the film Breaking the Waves (1996) and a cemetery was constructed for one scene, which peculiarly remained extant for several years thereafter.
