The Knab

A headland which extends south from a larger headland (South Ness), between Brei Wick and Bressay Sound in the east of the Shetland Mainland, The Knab is located a half-mile (1 km) south southeast of the centre of Lerwick. It comes to a sharp point at the Horse of the Knab. Lerwick Cemetery looks out to sea immediately to the north, with Anderson High School behind. A concrete platform on its eastern side was built during World War II to support three torpedo tubes, which formed part of the defences of Lerwick Harbour.
