Baird Airstrip

(Bute Airstrip)

The only airfield on the Isle of Bute, Baird Airstrip is located a half-mile (0.8 km) southwest of Kingarth and a mile (1.5 km) northwest of Kilchattan Bay. Built by Marquess of Bute and maintained by Mount Stuart Trust primarily for access by the Air Ambulance, the strip is available for public use. It has landing lights but no other facilities. Originally known as Bute Airstrip, it was renamed in 2010 in honour of Bute's own pioneer of flight, Andrew Baird (1862 - 1951).
