A western section of the Forest of Ae in NE Dumfries and Galloway, Auchencairn Forest is a plantation woodland which lies to the east of Nithsdale, 4 miles (6.5 km) southeast of Thornhill. Several cairns of archaeological interest have been identified on the hillsides within the forest, while areas to the south were cleared to allow the construction of Dalswinton Wind Farm.
