An elongated hogback in The Machars of Galloway, Loch Hill rises to 84m (275 feet) between the tiny Drumnescat Loch and the Flow of Drumnescat, 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of Loch Head. This is part of an extensive drumlin field and its principal axis is aligned NNE-SSW suggesting the direction of flow of an ancient ice sheet which once covered this area. Plantation forest surrounds the hill to the west. There are several other drumlins closeby also named Loch Hill, the nearest being 4 miles (6.5 km) to the east southeast and a similar distance to the south southeast.
