Carlingnose Point

A headland on the southeast of the Ferry Hills Peninsula in S Fife, Carlingnose Point lies a quarter-mile (0.4 km) east northeast of North Queensferry. It overlooks Inverkeithing Bay to the east and East Bay and the Forth Bridge to the south. The area is the site of several old whinstone (dolerite) quarries. The surrounding area now forms the Carlingnose Point Wildlife Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. The area is protected on account of its unusually level of biodiversity and locally rare plant populations including dropwort and field gentian. The dense gorse scrub provides nesting sites for finches and warblers, while fulmars can be spotted circling the quarry cliffs.
