Macbeth
(Mormaer of Moray)

1005 - 1057

The last of Scotland's Gaelic Kings. Grandson of Malcolm II. Although best known as the character in William Shakespeare's play of the same name, in reality he could not have been more different from this villainous portrayal. He married Gruoch, grand-daughter of Kenneth II, King of Alban. He reigned for 17 years, after slaying King Duncan I, and was himself killed at Lumphanan (Aberdeenshire), by Malcolm Canmore, Duncan's son. He is buried on the Island of Iona.
