Robert Fyfe


1930 - 2021

Actor. Born in Kirkcaldy, the son of a watchmaker, Fyfe was educated at Kirkcaldy High School, where he began acting. He went on to read English literature at the University of Edinburgh, although abandoned his studies to train as an actor at the Northern Theatre School in Bradford. He played in local theatres in Yorkshire and also appeared in the famous York Mystery Plays in 1954. He went on to tour with the Northern Children’s Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company.

His most notable and enduring role was twenty-five years as the hen-pecked Howard Sibshaw in the long-running BBC television series Last of the Summer Wine. Other television appearances included roles in Dr. Finlay's Casebook (1962-68) and Coronation Street (2012). He also had parts in films including The 51st State (2001), Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Burke and Hare (2010) and Cloud Atlas (2012).
