Rosamunde Pilcher

Scotland's best-selling author. Born in Cornwall, the daughter of a naval officer, Pilcher settled in Longforgan, near Dundee, with her Scottish husband in 1946. Pilcher found success in writing following service in the Women's Royal Naval Service during World War II. She began writing Mills and Boon romances, under the pseudonym Jane Fraser, going on to publish 10 novels under that name.

She has published more than twenty novels in her own name, some of the best known are: Sleeping Tiger (1967), The Empty House (1973), Under Gemini (1976), Voices in Summer (1984), The Shell Seekers (1987), September (1990) and Coming Home (1995).

She was awarded an OBE for services to literature in the New Year Honour List of 2002.
