Clyde View Park

Located on the left bank of the River Clyde in Renfrew, immediately adjacent to the Braehead Shopping Centre, Clyde View Park opened in 2005. Developed as part of Renfrew Riverside, in conjunction with Capital Shopping Centres (owner of the Braehead Centre) and the Park Lane Group (responsible for nearby residential developments), the park features a sinuous water body, fountains, childrens' play areas, picnic areas, paths, cycleways and a riverside walkway. Extending to 1.9 ha / 4.7 acres, the park has been designed to encourage wildlife. The name was chosen following a competition involving local residents, while Fife-based sculptor Kenny Munro (b. 1954) worked with local primary schools to design The Pyramid Stone. Munro also produced The Pillars, eight monuments capturing subjects important to local people; namely energy and ambition, the engineering company Babcock & Wilcox, the R34 airship and the India Rubber Company, the Simons & Lobnitz shipyard that built dredgers, the Stewart family and the Royal Burgh of Renfrew, St. Conval and Somerled, 602 Squadron of the RAF and Moorpark Aerodrome, together with air pioneer Winifred Drinkwater (1913-96). Another Fife-based sculptor David Annand (b. 1948) produced The Writers.
