Andrew Crummy


1959 -

Artist. Born in Craigmillar (Edinburgh), the son of community activist Helen Crummy (1920 - 2011), Crummy was educated at Portobello High School. He trained in illustration and printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee and then in design at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1984. He is noted for his grand public art-works; particularly public murals and tapestries. His works include murals in settlements such as Prestonpans and Uphall, together with the design of the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry (2009), The Great Tapestry of Scotland (2010), the Shale Workers Mural in Broxburn (2010) and the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry (2014). In the 2023, Crummy was awarded both an MBE, for services to art and cultural heritage in Scotland, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Dundee.
