Torridon
Highland

Situated at the head of Upper Loch Torridon, Torridon is a small village of Ross and Cromarty district of Highland. The area is a popular spot for climbers, with nearby the nine peaks which consist of Beinn Eighe, the seven peaks on the Liathach ridge and the peaks of Beinn Alligin and Beinn Dearg which are located to the north and west. The peaks of Liathach and Beinn Eighe are characterised by white quartzite caps which contain fossils of prehistoric animals, whilst elsewhere Torridonian sandstone has been eroded into crags, corries and pinnacles. A mountain rescue centre is located in the area.

In 1967 the Torridon Estate was passed to the National Trust for Scotland by the Inland Revenue as part payment of duties on the estate of the 4th Earl of Lovelace.
