Whisky Galore

1941

The merchantman SS Politician is wrecked in the Sound of Eriskay with a cargo of 24,000 cases of whisky. This incident provides the inspiration for Compton Mackenzie's famous book Whisky Galore (1946) which gave rise to the popular film of the same name (1949) directed by Alexander Mackendrick (1912 - 1993).
