Armstrong Tartan

A family with links to the Scottish borderlands and Northumberland in England, the Armstrongs are associated with Mangerton Tower in Liddesdale and Gilnockie Tower in the Debatable Lands to the west. They were also linked to the Borders Reivers.

The family are particularly proud of Neil Armstrong (1930 - 2012) who, in 1969, became the first man to set foot on the moon. He came to Scotland in 1972 where he was made a Freeman of the town of Langholm, associated with his ancestors, and was presented with the Livingstone Medal of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society in Edinburgh.
