Forthill

(Fort Hill)

A residential suburb of Dundee, Forthill lies on a sloping site to the north of Broughty Ferry. Taking its name from Forthill House and Farm, the suburb developed over this estate and the adjacent Balgillo House. At its core is a Conservation Area first designated as part of Barnhill Conservation Area in 1991 but separated six years later. This is characterised by large Victorian villas hidden behind stone walls and mature trees. Forthill Primary School opened in 1965 and is currently the largest primary school in Dundee, with a roll of 620 pupils (2017). Also located here is Forthill Park and Forthill Cricket Ground, the home of Forfarshire Cricket Club since 1884, which is one of Scotland's foremost cricket teams. Nearby is Grove Academy.
