Drum Sands

An extensive area of tidal sand on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, Drum Sands extend from Hound Point in the west to Granton in the east. Cramond Island and a reef known as The Buchans lie within the sands. The sandflats are of international importance for thousands of feeding and roosting wading birds and winterfowl. Designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the sands form part of the Firth of Forth Special Protection Area (SPA) and a RAMSAR site.
