A small district of W Glasgow, Gilmorehill is bordered on two sides by the River Kelvin and lies immediately to the north of Yorkhill and 2 miles (3 km) west northwest of the city centre. The University of Glasgow is located here. The land here was the property of several merchants who had made their money in the West Indies, there was a plan to built a cemetery here, before it was bought by the University in 1864.
