Mhic Chrion, Eilean

One of several long and narrow islands in Loch Craignish on the west coast of Argyll and Bute, Eilean Mhic Chrion is connected to the shore at low tide at its northeastern tip. This connection reaches the shore at Ardfern and shelters its pier and marina. 1¼ miles (2 km) in length, but rarely more than 300m (1000 feet) wide and extending to ha 53.7 / 133 acres), it rises steeply to 63m (207 feet) above sea level with a ridge extending along the centre of the island. Geologically, it is composed of ancient metamorphic rocks, crossed by Tertiary dykes. The island is unpopulated.
