Auchmuty

The oldest district or precinct of Glenrothes in Fife, Auchmuty lies to the east and south of the town centre. Two features were recorded on the First Edition of the Ordnance Survey map of 1856; a farmstead and a paper mill in the River Leven. Auchmuty House lay next to the mill and was the first home of Glenrothes Development Corporation (1949-50). Auchmuty Paper Mill remains extant. Both Auchmuty High School and Warout Primary & Community School date from 1957. For the most part, roads named after notable figures from early Scottish history (for example, Alexander, Bruce, Canmore, MacDuff, Queen Margaret and Thane).
