IBM Plant, Spango Valley by Greenock

A steep-sided valley in NW Inverclyde, the Spango Valley is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) south of Gourock and 2½ miles (4 km) southwest of Greenock. The valley is the location for a vast computer plant established by IBM in 1954, which remained the most significant employer in the area until the company left in 2016. The remaining buildings now form the Valleypark Business Park. The railway and A78 Trunk Road pass through the 2-mile (3-km) long valley on their way southwest to Inverkip and then on to Ayrshire. The Spango Burn joins the Kip Water to the south.
