An ice sports and bowling centre on King Street in Maxwelltown, the Ice Bowl lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) west of Dumfries town centre. Opened in 1992 and run by Dumfries and Galloway Council, the centre provides an ice rink for skating, ice hockey, curling and ice disco, together with a seven-lane indoor lawn bowling arena, which can also be used as an events hall with a capacity of 1100 people. The ice rink measures 56m (183 feet) by 29m (95 feet), while the bowling arena measures 42m (137 feet) by 36m (118 feet).
The centre is home to the Solway Sharks and Dumfries Demons Ice Hockey clubs, as well as the Nithsdale Indoor Bowls Club.
The Ice Bowl has also hosted performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company and regularly serves as the headquarters for Royal Scottish Automobile Club (RSAC) Scottish Rally Championship. The facility also has a cafeteria and bar, and serves as a conference venue.
