The southernmost of a line of summits in E Dumfries and Galloway, Shaw's Hill rises to 203m (666 feet) a quarter-mile (0.5 km) south of Back Hill and a mile (1.5 km) east of Tinwald. There is an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar on a secondary summit, which reaches 202m (662 feet) to the southwest of the main summit.
