Feith Buidhe

(Fèith Buidhe)

A small river in the heart of the Cairngorm Mountains, Feith Buidhe forms at the outlet of Lochan Buidhe, which lies to the east of the Lairig Ghru. It flows east northeast for 1¼ miles (2 km) to fall into the western end of Loch Avon, having gathered several tributaries on its route. It was near the head of this river that five teenagers from Edinburgh, and their leader, died in a snowstorm during a winter mountain navigation exercise in 1971, an event which became known as the Feith Buidhe Disaster.
