The highest of the Pentland Hills, Scald Law is located in Midlothian and rises to a height of 579m (1898 feet) 3 miles (5 km) west of Penicuik and a similar distance northeast of Carlops. Its summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey primary triangulation pillar installed in 1936 for the re-triangulation of Great Britain. To the north lies Loganlea Reservoir.
